Lotus Mudra – Gesture of purity
The lotus posture opens the heart chakra and symbolizes purity. A lotus flower sits on the surface of the pond, which opens towards the sun as its roots remain deeply stuffy on the dirty floor, making it firm and strong. It is a symbol of light and beauty emanating from the darkness.
The message of lotus posture is to stay connected to your roots, open yourself to light and realize that the greatest feeling of stability in life is an open heart.
The lotus posture is a hand gesture of loving-kindness and reminds us of the qualities of mercy, forgiveness and beauty and grace that are inherent within each of us. An awakened heart center is a sacred this mudra filled with the joy of life.
1)- After this mudra you should feel frozen and strong like a lotus flower, opening your heart for the happiness of life.
2)- Lotus posture removes misunderstandings, helps release tension, and is also practiced to increase the fire element in the body. It is a wonderful reminder of the beauty and grace around you and your surroundings.
3)- You can use it for cultivating love and affection, to reduce loneliness, and can also be practiced when someone is drained, exploited, or misunderstood.
Take some time to open your heart.
Follow the steps :
- Sit cross-legged (or any easy seating position),bringing the base of the palms together at the heart center, touching the thumb and pinky fingers together.
- Extend the rest of the fingers like a lotus flower opens towards sunlight. Close your eyes and take many deep, long breaths.
- There are many forms of this mudra which provide some extras.
The floating pose is a great extension to try:
inhale and slowly float (lift) the flower from your heart to your third eye (forehead) and then exhale, slowly drawing it back to the center of the heart. Continue this for as long as you want.
